Fashion Q & A with Ellen

Q - I like to look good at the stables, not just when I'm competing. What do you
wear when you're round the yard? Is there any item of clothing you can't
live without whilst mucking out or schooling?

A - I usually wear breeches and a casual top from Caldene, I like to feel relaxed when I'm working.  I really like my Caldene Helmsley Rugby Shirt which is warm but also stylish.  Sometimes I also sneak into my Tottie Fifi Fleece as it makes me feel so snug.

Q -I think long riding boots look smarter and more professional when competing
but mum says that they're too expensive to buy while my feet are still
growing. How old were you when you got your first pair of long riding boots?
What can I wear to make me look and feel like a pro but for a reasonable
price?

A - I would be about 13-years-old when I first wore long riding boots - I rode horses quite early and when I made the moved onto 14.2hh I also moved onto long boots. The Harry Hall Start Boots or Harry Hall Cadett Boots is ideal if you are looking for something stylish but that won't break the bank.

Q - My riding school is having a social evening next month - we're going out for
pizza. I've only recently joined the school and I don't know what to wear to
fit in. What would you wear?

A - I think it is more important to wear something that you feel really good and confident rather than follow the crowd.  I buy quite a few clothes from Zara, Kookai, Morgan and individual boutiques.  I wear Caldene tops when I am out and about also.

Q - At some point I am thinking about going to Pony Club Camp for my first time I have a list of things I need to take, but there's so much! I'm putting everything my pony needs in the lorry, but what about my stuff? Have you got any tips for packing to go away to competitions?

A - I keep it fairly simple but still always take way too much!

I normally take plenty of competition wear as I normally end up getting dirty or one of the horses will rub their mouth on me, I always like to look smart in the ring so pack spare shirts and breeches.

I try to take smart casual wear for on an evening or in case I have to carry out any sponsorship duties for my sponsor Caldene.  Caldene now produce a great range of luggage which would also help to keep everything smart when travelling.

Q - When I'm competing I get really hot with a long sleeved show shirt on and my
jacket too. It's really uncomfortable for me to have so many layers on and I
feel they restrict my movement. Have you got any ideas for alternatives to
keep me cooler and more comfortable in the ring but still looking smart?

A - I think it is important to always look smart in the ring whilst still remaining comfortable.  Caldene have a great range of lightweight competition jackets including the Harewood and Farnham and I love the Nene and Stirling show shirts from Caldene which are sleeveless - great to keep you cool!
